A Magical Journey to Rainbow Land
The Book
This enchanting fairy tale about the power of our dreams is a must for every animal lover who wants to know how the story continues once our pets have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Follow Mystery, the golden cat, into Rainbow Land. Laugh, cry, and dream with him. Explore the colorful world at the foot of the rainbow—a world that shatters every boundary you thought you knew.
Who Is This Book For?
his book is for adults and children aged ten and up who have had to let their pet cross the Rainbow Bridge—or who want to prepare themselves for saying goodbye.
Since it's not a traditional self-help book but a lovingly told story, it can be read without a sad occasion, too.
Why Can This Book Bring Comfort?
Because grief needs more than words—it needs a picture. This story doesn't explain how to grieve—it takes you there. It paints a world so vivid and alive that you can't help but carry it with you.
You walk alongside Mystery, meet his friends, laugh at their adventures—and somewhere along the way, the weight in your chest begins to ease. Not because the grief disappears, but because something warm and bright has made room beside it.

Soap bubble, that I am.
Brimming full of life.
Yet all my colors,
all my strife,
are for nothing, all in vain—
unless you grant me flight.
Who wrote the Rainbow Bridge?
In my book, I refer to the legend of the Rainbow Bridge — a story that comforts people around the world who have lost a pet. In the first German edition of 2020, I named several possible authors, because at the time, the question of origin was unresolved.
In 2023, the mystery was solved. Scottish artist Edna Clyne-Rekhy wrote the text in 1959, at the age of nineteen, after the death of her Labrador, Major. She never intended to publish it — she passed the lines on to friends without putting her name to them.
The text took on a life of its own. It traveled around the world and comforted millions, without anyone knowing who had written it. Others claimed authorship.
I'm glad that Edna Clyne-Rekhy’s name is now linked to her story — and I'm happy to set the record straight for the German edition as well.
I want to hold on to:
The sun — when it sinks into the sea at the horizon.
The wind — when it passes by me.
The light — when it yields to darkness at night.
You – when you leave me.
I should let go:
The sun — so it may rise again come morning.
The wind — so it may carry on to you.
The light — so it may banish the dark once more.
You — so I may live my life again.

What readers say
A beautiful book that brings comfort. The story gives hope and consoles — it's simply a lovely thought that our beloved pets are somewhere waiting for us. Beautifully illustrated, too. Suitable for children and adults alike. It definitely helped me!
A deeply moving book that had us in tears one moment and smiling the next. The illustrations are wonderful — they clearly reflect the animals' emotions. There are even photos of the golden cat, and they speak for themselves. We'd recommend this book to children aged nine and up as well. We could feel the deep bond between Mystery and the author — a bond that reaches far beyond this world. 💕
For me, "Mystery and the Rainbow Bridge" was the right book at the right time. Tessy is safe and sound where she is now … in Rainbow Land! My imagination and dreams were awakened, and grief turned into letting go.
